A big thank you!
Its 6:01 am
Just a quick note to say "thank you" for the great feedback on my entry Food Stamp Nation. I will be answering the rest of the comments either later today or tomorrow.
I was so very pleasantly surprised I got such good feedback...some folks actually took the time to make a serious comment about the FS issue. And again, its not a political issue, its a human issue
I was using the picture as a point that people who use assistance should be allowed to have picnics without feeling shame about it. Looking at the picture, who you know how it was purchased? That was my point *s*
I hadn't read the previous post you referred to prior to now and I agree with you 100% (I am guessing the others didn't read the linked post...). I was FS for a few years when I had to completely stop working to take care of my daughter after she had become disabled after a head injury. Now, I work full time and am financially stable but booooyyyy, you should see the nasty looks I get when I run to the store for two of my neighbors who are disabled (one is in a motorized wheelchair due to cerebral palsy and the other has MS) and pick up some groceries for them with their EBT cards. People are so quick to judge and be nasty.
Sort of amazing people still peer down and label folks. I cannot begin to tell you how many times when I help folks at my job,you see the EBT card. These folks aren't lazy or gaming the system, they are working folks who just need the help....
I went back and read the original post. I completely agree. I see comments constantly on Facebook where people are putting down people using FS cards. Some of those people are employees at stores. They put everyone in the same category. They think everyone is abusing the system.
Nothing better than a picnic with a few good friends. Great spread. Just needs wet wipes
ReplyDeleteYes,and even people who are on the EBT card should be entitled to enjoy a meal like this without being judged.
